Family Support Worker
Full-time 36.5 hours per week
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and experienced Family Support Worker to join our dedicated team, working with children and young people aged 8 18 and their families to prevent family breakdown and reduce the number of children entering care.
About the RoleThis is a challenging and rewarding role where you will provide direct, intensive support to families in their homes for a period of 4 12 weeks (and beyond, if needed). You will play a key part in a flexible crisis response service, working with families experiencing complex challenges, including:
Domestic abuse, mental health concerns, parental or child substance misuse
Child-on-parent violence
Neurodiversity and trauma linked to abuse, loss, or bullying
You will use relational and evidence-based approaches including Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP PACE), and Mentalisation therapy to repair family relationships and reduce conflict.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide weekly in-home visits to families (more frequently during crises)
Complete weekly reports for each allocated family
Attend statutory meetings and provide feedback on progress
Participate in duty rota (1 day per week)
Work primarily within the South team, with flexibility to support citywide if required
To succeed in this role, you must:
Have direct experience working with both parents/carers and young people
Be confident working in high-pressure, emotionally complex situations
Understand and apply trauma-informed, therapeutic practices
Be a car driver with access to a vehicle
Children must be aged 8 18
Must be open to a statutory social work team
Support is provided to prevent care entry or support rehabilitation/transition plans back to family or friends
