Freelance Site Manager – Groundworks | Exeter | 8 Weeks

We’re on the lookout for a hands-on Site Manager to oversee a £1m groundworks package on a modular build project based in Exeter. This is an 8-week freelance assignment working with an experienced contractor on a fast-paced programme.

The Role

You’ll be leading from the front—coordinating teams, liaising with subcontractors, and keeping boots on the ground. This isn’t a role for clipboard managers—you’ll be expected to get stuck in, drive progress on-site, and ensure works are delivered safely, on time, and to spec.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day site management of the groundworks phase

Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards

Managing subcontractors and materials

Maintaining site records and reporting to the project lead

Working closely with the modular install team to coordinate works

Requirements

SMSTS – essential

First Aid – essential

CSCS card – essential

*

Proven experience managing groundworks packages

Hands-on attitude with the ability to solve problems on-site
