Job Role: Design Manager - Water Non-Infrastructure

Location: Peterborough - Hybrid (days required can be discussed)

Rate: £500 - £550 / day

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

About the Role:

Join the award-winning @one Alliance, a progressive and collaborative delivery partnership in the water sector. As a Design Manager, you'll lead the development and delivery of innovative, value-driven design solutions for non-infrastructure water projects such as treatment works, pumping stations, and groundwater abstraction schemes.

You'll oversee a multi-disciplinary design team, working closely with internal technical specialists and external suppliers to produce integrated, sustainable designs that support project affordability, reduce carbon, and enhance natural capital.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the development and management of Engineering Project Plans (scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources)

Managing the performance and development of a high-performing design team

Ensuring quality assurance and right-first-time design principles across all outputs

Coordinating internal discipline leads and external suppliers to deliver integrated solutions

Collaborating with project functions (e.g. planning, procurement, construction) to drive efficient delivery

Supporting programme milestones and driving design affordability and sustainability

Fulfilling CDM responsibilities, including design risk assessments and H&S documentation

Promoting innovation, digital design tools, and continuous improvement

About you:

Degree-qualified in Engineering or related field (preferred)

Chartered or working towards chartered status

Strong experience managing design delivery and multi-disciplinary teams

Confident in supplier coordination, design integration, and project risk management

Experience in a Design & Build environment (beneficial but not essential)

Committed to innovation, sustainability, and collaborative delivery

Effective leader with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
