General Teaching Assistant (Year 2)

Location: Wigan

Salary: £93 - £100 per day (dependent on experience)

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full-time, Long-term (Academic Year)

About the Role

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated, nurturing, and enthusiastic General Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school community in Wigan. This full-time position is scheduled to start in September 2026 and will run for the full academic year.

You will be based in a lovely Year 2 classroom, supporting the class teacher in preparing these young learners for the transition from Key Stage 1. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced TA or a graduate looking to gain valuable classroom experience in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide general classroom support to the Year 2 teacher, helping to manage daily routines and resources.

Work with small groups of pupils to boost their progress in reading, writing, and phonics (Sats preparation support where required).

Offer 1:1 support to children who need an extra helping hand to stay engaged and motivated.

Help create a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment.

Assist with the assessment of pupil progress and feedback to the class teacher.

What We Are Looking For

Previous experience working with children in a primary school setting (Key Stage 1 experience is highly desirable).

A patient, encouraging, and warm personality with a passion for helping children reach their full potential.

Good literacy and numeracy skills to confidently support Year 2 curriculum standards.

A collaborative team player who can take direction well from the class teacher.

An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or the willingness to apply for a new one through Tradewind).
