College Personal Care SEND Assistant

Position Overview: The Alexandra Centre of Further Education in Camden is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Care College Assistant to provide support to disabled college students with profound and multiple learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and special educational needs. As a Personal Care College Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and dignity of our students while supporting their educational journey.

Responsibilities:

Personal Care Support:

Assist students with toileting, bathing, grooming, and dressing as needed.
Provide support with feeding and ensure proper nutrition.
Aid in the administration of medication under the guidance of healthcare professionals.
Assist students with mobility and transfers using appropriate aids and techniques.

Student Assistance:

Support students in accessing college facilities, classrooms, and resources.
Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure the inclusion and participation of students in educational activities.
Provide emotional support and reassurance to students during challenging moments.

Health and Safety:

Maintain a safe and clean environment, including student areas and personal care facilities.
Follow health and safety protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of students and staff.
Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns promptly to the appropriate authorities.

Collaborative Efforts:

Communicate effectively with teaching staff, healthcare professionals, and other support staff to ensure coordinated care for students.
Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance personal care knowledge and skills.
Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of students and their families.

Requirements:

Previous personal care experience or a background in providing care services to individuals with disabilities or special educational needs.
Empathy, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Understanding and commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.

This is a full-time position, working five days a week. Preferred hours for this role would be approximately 4 hours a day, around midday, but flexibility is available.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
