Project Manager
PCD270012
Location: East London
Type: Permanent
Rate/Salary: £56,000–£67,000 per annum
This is a senior, high-profile Project Manager position within a major gas and utility network replacement programme, offering long-term career development and a varied delivery environment across office and construction sites. You will join a well-established infrastructure delivery team focused on improving critical network assets across London and the Thames Valley, delivering regulated outcomes against demanding timescales and quality standards.
In this role, you will manage multiple projects across the full lifecycle, taking responsibility for commercial management, project controls, risk management, governance compliance and stakeholder engagement. You will develop and deliver optimised delivery plans that meet regulatory, statutory and internal targets, and you will ensure project outcomes transition smoothly into operational use. You will also play an active role in protecting and enhancing organisational reputation through professional engagement with customers, partners and external stakeholders.
A key element of the role is building and maintaining a strong health, safety and environmental culture across a complex, high-risk portfolio and throughout the supply chain. You will manage and assure contractor performance to deliver agreed outcomes on time, to budget and to quality, and you will be expected to maintain clear reporting and evidence throughout delivery. You will support the development of project briefs and early contractor involvement activities, contribute to tender scope and packaging, and work closely with procurement to deliver against tight tender timelines. You will also manage the route to consent strategy, identifying and escalating consent-related risks, and considering early works where required to protect programme delivery.
The working model is hybrid, typically 2–3 days per week at the Maple Lodge office in Rickmansworth, alongside regular visits to construction sites. The role is full-time (36 hours per week, Monday to Friday). A driving licence and access to transport is preferred due to the site-based nature of delivery.
To be successful, you will bring experience delivering gas and utilities based projects with a strong technical or engineering background. You will have a solid understanding of the project lifecycle and be confident communicating delivery approach, risks and progress to both internal and external stakeholders. You should be familiar with stage gate governance and have a proven track record delivering a programme of projects end to end. Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of health and safety standards, legislation and governance are essential. Gas or wider utilities experience is beneficial.
