Job Description

The Opportunity:

We are currently supporting a confidential public sector organisation in the search for an experienced Network Engineer to join their technology function on an initial 6-month contract basis for a major central government project (Government Digital Services / GDS).

This is an excellent opportunity to support and enhance critical network infrastructure within a highly secure, mission-critical environment supporting nationally important services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining network performance, availability and security across complex enterprise environments, while supporting infrastructure modernisation, operational resilience and continuous improvement initiatives.

Role and Responsibilities:

* Support, maintain and optimise enterprise network infrastructure across complex environments

* Monitor network performance, availability and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues

* Troubleshoot network incidents, outages and connectivity issues across multiple environments

* Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations and network improvement projects

* Work closely with infrastructure, security and operational teams to ensure reliable and secure network services

* Assist with network capacity planning, resilience and disaster recovery activities

* Support network security controls and compliance requirements

Configure and support network technologies including:

* Routing

* Switching

* Firewalls

* VPNs

* Wireless networking

Skills and Experience:

* Strong commercial experience operating within enterprise network engineering environments

* Proven experience supporting and troubleshooting complex network infrastructure

* Experience working with enterprise-grade networking equipment and technologies

* Good understanding of network security principles and operational best practice

Desirable Experience:

* Experience within government, healthcare or highly regulated environments

* Exposure to cloud networking technologies within AWS and/or Azure environments

* Familiarity with network monitoring and observability tooling

* Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments

Strong understanding of:

* TCP/IP

* DNS

* DHCP

* Routing and switching

* Firewalls

* VPN technologies

Relevant networking certifications advantageous, such as:

* CCNA

* CCNP

* CompTIA Network+

* JNCIA

NB: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic level of security clearance before undertaking the assignment (around two weeks’ lead-time).
