Salary: £30,000 to £60,000 + bonus (varies by sector and responsibilities)
Role overview
• Support the build, maintenance, and optimisation of SQL databases, reporting, and data-driven features
• Work closely with developers, analysts, and the business to deliver clean data outputs for screens, reports, and operational processes
• Suitable for someone early in their career who wants strong hands-on SQL experience in a real production environment
Key responsibilities
• Write and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support applications, reporting, and dashboards
• Develop and update tables, fields, and database structures following standards, naming conventions, and change control
• Improve performance of existing queries and procedures through tuning and optimisation
• Support reporting and MI outputs such as SSRS, Excel extracts, Power BI datasets, and operational dashboards
• Investigate incidents and data issues, troubleshoot root causes, and apply fixes safely
• Produce clear technical notes or specifications based on business requirements
• Support releases by testing changes, validating outputs, and coordinating with developers and stakeholders
• Where relevant, support integrations and data feeds for systems such as ERP, eCommerce platforms, and carrier or dispatch systems
Essential skills and experience
• Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience writing queries and working with relational data
• Microsoft SQL Server experience and confidence using SSMS
• T-SQL knowledge including joins, subqueries, CTEs, functions, and stored procedures
• Strong attention to detail, especially when validating outputs and working with production data
• Ability to communicate clearly and work well within a team
Nice to have depending on the role
• Reporting stack exposure such as SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI, MS Access, or Excel Power Query
• Basic programming exposure such as C#, .NET, Java, JavaScript, or APIs and web services
• Understanding of change and release management processes in live environments
• Cloud exposure such as AWS or Azure
Tools and keywords for CV screening
• SQL, T-SQL, MSSQL, SQL Server, SSMS, stored procedures, views, indexing, performance tuning, query optimisation, database design
• SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI, Excel, Power Query

• Changes are delivered safely with clear testing and minimal production issues
• Reporting outputs are trusted by stakeholders and easy to maintain
• You steadily increase ownership from small changes to larger improvements and automation work
