SEMH Teaching Assistant

Sheffield In-Person Flexible Hours Supply Basis

Tradewind Recruitment are currently seeking dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants to work across specialist provisions and schools throughout Sheffield on a supply basis.

This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who may face barriers to learning within a traditional educational environment. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, engage positively with learning, and develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed both academically and personally.

Working on a supply basis, you will have the opportunity to support a variety of schools and specialist provisions across Sheffield, gaining valuable experience while making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.

The Role

  • Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and personal development.
  • Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support the implementation of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support pupil progress.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or additional support requirements.
  • A patient, calm, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain professional and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

Experience in education, youth work, residential care, support work, coaching, mentoring, or similar roles would be highly advantageous but is not essential.

What Tradewind Recruitment Offers

  • Flexible supply work to fit around your availability.
  • Competitive rates of pay.
  • Access to a variety of specialist schools and provisions across Sheffield.
  • Free CPD and professional development opportunities.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to young people's lives.

Salary

Pay rates are competitive and will vary depending on experience, qualifications, and availability.

Candidates at the lower end of the pay scale are typically those with less relevant experience or more limited availability. Higher rates are available for individuals with significant SEMH experience, relevant qualifications, and the flexibility to work across a range of schools and provisions throughout Sheffield.

How to Apply

If you are passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and would like to join our team of dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants in Sheffield, please send your most up-to-date CV to (url removed).
