  • Maintaining accurate records, including worksheets, timesheets, and vehicle checklists where necessary.
  • Identifying, reporting, and helping resolve safety hazards or appearance-related issues affecting cemetery grounds.
  • Working flexibly on your own initiative and collaboratively as part of a wider team.
  • Complying with all Council policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Equality, and relevant Government regulations.
You may also be required to undertake other duties appropriate to the grade as reasonably requested by senior management.

Essential Requirements
  • A valid Category C1 driving licence is required for this role.
  • Ability and confidence to drive utility vehicles for maintenance purposes and travel between multiple sites across the city.
Experience & Skills
  • Experience of physical work, ideally within an outdoor environment.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to interact respectfully and sensitively with bereaved families and visitors.
  • A commitment to delivering a high-quality bereavement service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A flexible approach to working across multiple locations and varying working hours.
  • Ability to complete basic paperwork and reports accurately.
  • Understanding of and ability to follow health and safety procedures.
  • Capability to undertake physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel across the city to different maintenance locations.
  • Ability to speak an appropriate standard of spoken English in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Ability to follow predefined work routes and specifications.
  • Ability to understand and comply with Council policies and procedures.
Training
  • Willingness to attend training and develop new skills.
Working Pattern
This role includes outdoor working across multiple cemetery and crematoria locations and may involve weekend working to support seasonal opening arrangements.

No DBS check is required for this post.

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in employment and service delivery. All staff are expected to understand and actively support Equal Opportunities policies.
If you are practical, reliable, and committed to maintaining respectful environments for bereaved families and visitors, we would welcome your application.
