SEN Teacher

A welcoming and well-resourced specialist school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teacher to join their team from September 2026.

This rewarding opportunity involves teaching a Year 1 class of 9 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who are pre-verbal and have high sensory and communication needs. The class benefits from exceptional support, with a team of 4 experienced Teaching Assistants working alongside the class teacher.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the class, including planning, preparing, delivering and assessing lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils. You will create a nurturing, structured, and engaging learning environment that enables every child to make progress academically, socially, and emotionally. Working closely with therapists, support staff, and families, you will develop personalised learning programmes and monitor progress through ongoing assessment and review.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes
  • Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress, adapting learning accordingly
  • Lead a team of 4 Teaching Assistants to ensure high-quality support across the classroom
  • Create a positive, structured, and sensory-aware learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Support pupils' communication, social development, and independence

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching pupils with ASD and complex SEND needs
  • A strong understanding of communication and sensory-based approaches to learning
  • Experience planning, assessing, and tracking progress for pupils working below age-related expectations
  • Excellent classroom management and teamwork skills
  • A patient, resilient, and positive approach to teaching

The school offers:

  • A highly supportive leadership team
  • Excellent staffing ratios and specialist resources
  • Ongoing CPD and career development opportunities
  • A collaborative and inclusive working environment

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND practitioner or a mainstream teacher looking to transition into a specialist setting.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Apply today to secure a September 2026 start and make a meaningful difference to the lives of young learners with SEND.
