SEN Teaching Assistant - Chatham Primary School (Lower Key Stage 2)

Academics Rochester is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Chatham. This rewarding role involves providing 1:1 and small-group support to two pupils in Lower Key Stage 2 with additional learning needs.

The pupils require tailored support for a range of needs, including:

• ADHD
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Non-verbal communication needs

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping these pupils access learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve positive outcomes within the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent and nurturing support to two pupils with SEN.
• Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Implement strategies to support attention, engagement and behaviour.
• Use visual aids, communication tools and structured routines to support non-verbal communication.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals.
• Promote inclusion and encourage independence where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism and ADHD.
• A patient, caring and resilient approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
• Experience within a primary school setting is desirable but not essential.
