Sen Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistant - Special School - Coventry

The best support these pupils get often comes from the same familiar face, day after day. If you're an experienced teaching assistant who values seeing a child settle and grow over time rather than moving between schools every week, this long-term role in Coventry is worth a look.

We're recruiting on behalf of a special school supporting children and young people aged 7 to 18, primarily those with communication and comprehension needs. They're looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide steady, high-quality support across the school day.

When children find it hard to communicate or make sense of what's being asked of them, frustration can follow, which can lead to behaviour that challenges. This role isn't a first step into SEND. It's a role for someone who doesn't take behaviour personally and understands that behaviour is often communication too.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with communication and comprehension needs, working 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Follow agreed behaviour and regulation strategies consistently throughout the day.
  • Adapt your approach to how each pupil arrives and what they need that morning.
  • Keep teachers and the SENCO informed about what's working and what isn't.
  • Help build the trust and routine that pupils with additional needs rely on.

Requirements

  • At least 6 months' recent experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience in a special school, mainstream school, alternative provision or similar setting
  • Calm, resilient and able to stay steady on difficult days.
  • Training in behaviour management such as Team Teach is an advantage, not essential.
  • A genuine, long-term commitment to pupils whose needs ask more of the adults around them.

What We Offer

This is an ongoing, full-time SEN Teaching Assistant role, not day-to-day supply, so you can build real consistency. You'll join a structured setting with trained, supportive colleagues, clear lines of escalation, and the chance to develop specialist skills in complex SEN and communication support.

Why Sprint?

If you're looking to work as a teacher in a mainstream classroom, providing day-to-day supply cover, we're probably not the agency for you. But if you're a Teaching Assistant, passionate about supporting students with additional needs and want a long-term role where you can build consistency and see the impact of your work every day, that's exactly what we do.

Next Steps

If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference, register your interest today.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is previous experience working in a school setting.

Sprint Education Recruitment is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously. All staff we register will undertake thorough interviewing and referencing checks and hold, or be prepared to undergo, an Enhanced DBS check that must be registered on the Update Service.
