Autism Support Centre Teacher

Apply Now

Are you a passionate and experienced teacher with a strong understanding of autism? We are recruiting for a rewarding opportunity within a highly supportive primary school in Essex, working in a well-established Autism Support Centre (ASC).

We are working with a primary school in Basildon which has an established Autism Support Centre providing enhanced provision for up to 8 pupils at any one time within a mainstream setting. The centre offers a calm, structured base where pupils with EHCPs receive targeted support alongside increasing access to mainstream lessons. The ASC is an integral part of the school day, working closely with class teachers to support gradual transitions and inclusion. Staff within the centre collaborate closely to ensure consistency, regulation and clear routines for pupils throughout the day.

The successful candidate will be a confident and adaptable teacher with a strong understanding of autism and how pupils learn best within a mainstream environment. They will be comfortable working with a small group of pupils, tailoring provision to individual needs while supporting planned transitions into mainstream classes. A collaborative approach is essential, as the role involves daily communication with teaching staff, support staff and external professionals. The ideal teacher will bring calm leadership, clear structure and a child‑centred approach to their practice.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

* Experience working with pupils with autism / SEN

* Strong behaviour management and understanding of regulation strategies

* Confidence working within a small, structured provision

* A collaborative and flexible approach

* Experience with EHCPs (desirable)
