Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term
Rate: £90-£120 per day (dependent on experience and responsibilities)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15am-4:15pm
About the School
We are working with a welcoming and inclusive school in York that is committed to ensuring every child can access high‑quality education, including those with additional needs. The school supports pupils with a range of SEN - including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs - within a mainstream classroom environment.
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and fully engage in school life.
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:
Support pupils 1:1 or in small groups within the mainstream classroom.
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using school‑wide strategies.
Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCO to adapt lessons and ensure inclusive practice.
Encourage independence, confidence, and engagement in pupils with additional needs.
Provide classroom support to help create a calm, structured learning environment.What We're Looking For
Experience supporting children with SEN in a mainstream or similar setting.
A patient, nurturing, and resilient approach to working with pupils who may need additional support.
A strong understanding of inclusive practice within mainstream education.
Adaptability and confidence when supporting pupils with varying needs.
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).To be eligible, you must:
Hold Right to Work in the UK.
Have an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service or be willing to apply for one.
