Teacher (QTS) - Secondary Nurture Group / SEND Provision


Location: Lancaster
Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, Fixed-Term Contract (Autumn Term Only)
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: From 195 per day, with higher rates available in line with experience and pay scale where appropriate.



About the Role


We are seeking a committed and compassionate qualified teacher to join our secondary nurture provision in Lancaster for the Autumn Term. This full-time role offers an excellent opportunity for a teacher with experience of SEND, SEMH and inclusive practice to make a significant difference to a small group of pupils requiring additional support to engage successfully with learning.
Working within a nurturing and supportive environment, you will deliver a personalised curriculum, promote positive outcomes and help pupils develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to thrive both academically and socially.
The successful candidate will work closely with the SENDCo, pastoral team and support staff to provide high-quality teaching and nurture-based interventions that enable pupils to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.



Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning


  • Plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons for a small secondary nurture group.

  • Adapt teaching and learning to meet a range of SEND needs, including SEMH, ASD and cognition and learning difficulties.

  • Create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, using assessment information to inform planning and next steps.

  • Differentiate learning activities to ensure all pupils can access and achieve success within the curriculum.


SEND and Inclusion


  • Support the implementation and review of EHCP outcomes and individual support plans.

  • Work closely with the SENDCo, pastoral staff and external agencies to support pupils' individual needs.

  • Develop strategies that promote engagement, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

  • Support pupils' successful transition into and from mainstream lessons where appropriate.


Behaviour and Pastoral Support


  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and families.

  • Promote high expectations for attendance, behaviour and learning.

  • Use restorative and nurturing approaches to support pupils' emotional wellbeing.

  • Maintain accurate records relating to pupil progress, behaviour and interventions.


Collaboration


  • Work effectively with teaching assistants and support staff within the nurture provision.

  • Attend relevant meetings, reviews and professional discussions.

  • Liaise with subject teachers to ensure consistency of support and curriculum access.


Person Specification

Essential


  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils.

  • Understanding of SEND and inclusive classroom practice.

  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to adapt teaching to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.


Desirable


  • Experience working within a nurture group, alternative provision or SEND setting.

  • Knowledge of SEMH, ASD and trauma-informed practice.

  • Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.

  • Additional SEND or inclusion-related qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 14.3% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Spencer Clarke Group work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area. We deal with teaching placements at Primary, Secondary, Special Education needs and college level as well as support staff positions also within these.
