Job Title: One-to-One Learning Mentor

Location: Kent (various locations available)
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time / Term Time Only (flexible opportunities available)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience and qualifications

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and resilient One-to-One Learning Mentor to provide tailored educational and emotional support to children and young people across Kent. This rewarding role involves working individually with pupils who may be unable to access mainstream education due to additional needs, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, anxiety, behavioural needs, or other barriers to learning.

As a Learning Mentor, you will build positive relationships, inspire confidence, and help learners achieve both academically and personally through personalised support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging one-to-one learning sessions tailored to individual needs.
  • Build trusting, positive relationships with pupils and their families.
  • Support learners to improve confidence, motivation, attendance, and engagement.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet a range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records of learning and development.
  • Liaise with schools, parents/carers, and other professionals to ensure consistent support.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, or mentoring.
  • A patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to motivate and engage learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Confidence working independently while also collaborating with professionals.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting inclusion.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Youth Work, or Education qualification.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or anxiety-related needs.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (preferred due to travel across Kent).
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
