Occupational Therapist Prevention & Early Intervention

Location: Walsall Council
Rate: £28.40 per hour (West Midlands MOC Cap)
Working Pattern: Hybrid Community-based with 1 office day per week

Make a Real Difference in Adult Social Care

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking for your next opportunity in Adult Social Care?

Walsall Council is seeking a motivated Occupational Therapist to join its Prevention & Early Intervention Team, supporting adults aged 18+ with physical disabilities to maximise their independence and improve their quality of life.

This is a rewarding community-based role where you'll use a person-centred, strength-based approach to deliver preventative interventions that reduce risk, promote wellbeing, and help people remain safe and independent within their own homes.

If you enjoy autonomous working while being part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As an Occupational Therapist, you will manage a varied caseload of adults with complex physical needs, completing holistic assessments and delivering practical interventions that prevent hospital admissions, reduce falls, delay the need for ongoing care packages, and promote functional independence.

Working across the community, you'll provide expert Occupational Therapy input while collaborating with service users, carers, health professionals, and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete person-centred, strengths-based Occupational Therapy assessments.

  • Assess functional ability and develop outcome-focused intervention plans.

  • Apply clinical knowledge of physical health conditions to support effective decision-making.

  • Independently manage and prioritise a diverse caseload.

  • Assess for and arrange minor equipment, specialist equipment, and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grant recommendations.

  • Complete manual handling assessments and provide moving and handling advice.

  • Contribute to rehousing assessments and provide appropriate signposting to community services.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive case records.

  • Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Apply safeguarding principles and demonstrate sound knowledge of the Care Act 2014.

Essential Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.

  • Registration with HCPC.

  • Experience working with adults with physical disabilities.

  • Strong understanding of person-centred, strengths-based practice.

  • Experience completing equipment and adaptation assessments.

  • Knowledge of manual handling principles.

  • Understanding of safeguarding legislation and the Care Act.

  • Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable depending on service requirements).

Why Join Walsall Council?
  • Competitive pay of £28.40 per hour

  • Hybrid working with only one office day per week

  • Supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team

  • Opportunity to make a genuine impact through preventative practice

  • Initial 2-month contract with the possibility of extension

  • Varied and rewarding community-based caseload

If you're passionate about enabling adults to live independently and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions or long-term care, we'd love to hear from you.
