Earthworks Site Supervisor

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Earthworks Site Supervisor to join our team on a major highways and civil engineering project. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of large scale earthworks, highways, and structural works on a high-profile infrastructure scheme.

Working alongside the Site Manager, Engineers, and Project Team, you will be responsible for supervising day to day earthworks operations, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Site Supervisor Key Responsibilities

• Supervise all earthworks activities, including bulk excavation, cut and fill, embankment construction, capping, subgrade preparation, and general groundworks.
• Coordinate labour, plant operators, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve programme milestones.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, method statements, and project requirements.
• Monitor earthworks operations to ensure compliance with levels, line, gradient, and compaction specifications.
• Work closely with Site Engineers to manage testing, inspections, and quality assurance.
• Ensure compliance with earthworks specifications, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and material testing requirements.
• Carry out daily briefings, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
• Promote and enforce the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality performance.
• Identify and resolve site issues, escalating where necessary to minimise programme delays.
• Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, plant returns, workforce records, permits, and progress reports.
• Liaise effectively with the wider project team to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.

Site Supervisor Key Experience

• Proven experience supervising large-scale earthworks on major civil engineering or highways projects.
• Strong understanding of:
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Cut and fill operations
  • Embankment construction
  • Soil management and material classification
  • Compaction and testing requirements
  • Heavy plant operations
• Experience coordinating multiple work fronts and subcontractors.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
• A proactive approach to safety, quality, and programme delivery.

Essential Qualifications

• SSSTS or SMSTS
• CSCS Gold or Black Card
• Full UK Driving Licence
