Your Role And Responsibilities
The organisation CIC is hiring, join our collaborative IT Automation team and help deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud solutions. This is a hands-on role for a motivated junior to mid-level Engineer or Developer with public cloud platform and open-source operating system experience who thrives in problem-solving, learning new technologies, and supporting mission-critical systems in a secure environment.
You will work closely with senior engineers and security teams, building, maintaining, and improving cloud infrastructure while following DevOps best practices for our secure, Public Sector projects.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and manage public cloud platform environments - provision, configure, and maintain secure, reliable cloud infrastructure to meet project and business needs.
• Administer and troubleshoot open-source operating system systems - ensure smooth operation of open-source operating system-based servers, diagnosing and resolving issues efficiently.
• Champion immutable infrastructure practices - help implement approaches that improve system stability, repeatability, and security.
• Monitor and optimise performance - use monitoring tools to track system health, identify potential issues, and fine-tune environments for optimal efficiency.
• Collaborate on automation initiatives - work alongside senior engineers to design and deliver improvements in deployment pipelines, infrastructure, and tooling.
• Operate within strict security frameworks - follow established policies and contribute to maintaining compliance in a secure operational environment.
• Document and share knowledge - create clear, accurate documentation for processes, configurations, and changes to support transparency and team learning.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise
• Eligibility to work on UK public sector projects - must have the right to work in the UK and have been a continuous UK resident for the past five years. We cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills - able to work effectively within a team and adapt quickly to new technologies and processes.
• Hands-on public cloud platform expertise - proven track record in provisioning, configuring, and managing public cloud platform services in real-world projects.
• Strong open-source operating system administration background - confident in managing, troubleshooting, and optimising open-source operating system-based systems.
• Experience in secure environments - comfortable working to strict security standards and applying best-practice security principles in daily operations.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience - familiarity with tools such as infrastructure-as-code tooling or public cloud platform infrastructure-as-code tooling to automate cloud deployments.
• CI/CD pipeline exposure - understanding of continuous integration and delivery workflows, and experience with automation tools.
• Containerisation & orchestration knowledge - practical experience with containerisation tooling and container orchestration platform for building and managing scalable applications.
• Monitoring & observability skills - experience using tools like monitoring and observability tooling to track performance and detect issues.
• Scripting capability - working knowledge of Python or Bash for automation and system management tasks.
• Architectural awareness - understanding of microservices and modern cloud design patterns to help shape resilient, maintainable systems
