We are looking for a proactive and creative team member to join Merton Council's high-performing external communications function. With a new structure and communications strategy, it's an exciting time to join us! The team is taking forward the council's ambitions and strategic objectives to help Build a Better Merton for everyone.
• Support the council's mission to serve our community with trusted information.
• Create brilliant communications content that raises awareness about the council's priorities and activities across our channels, including videos, images and basic graphic design.
• Create impactful and influential behaviour change campaigns.
• Put together clear and targeted communications plans with measurable objectives and outcomes.
• Work closely with council service teams to deliver effective and creative communications within designated portfolio areas.
• Proactively seek opportunities to work with the media, local stakeholders, community organisation to promote the council's services, policies and objectives.
• Handle urgent media enquiries in a timely way, providing accurate and thorough responses.
• Engage audiences using a full mix of digital communications.
• Work collaboratively with senior leaders, councillors, and stakeholders providing trusted communications advice.
• Support the delivery of consultations within designated portfolio areas.
• Guard the council's reputation and advise in response to brand management, and crisis communications.
• Be an expert adviser on external communications approaches and best practice across the organisation.

This role requires you to work in the office 3 days per week and 2 days from home.
