Environment Manager
Market Bosworth
Full–time
PCD310188

Job description
Be part of transforming the UK's energy future.

The organisation is seeking an experienced Environment Manager to join our team on National Grid's Great Grid Upgrade (GGU) – one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure programmes, designed to revolutionise how we deliver clean, green energy across the country. This is a unique opportunity to lead environmental performance on a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), working within a collaborative partnership alongside some of the industry's leading contractors, consultants, and sustainability professionals.

About You
• Experience: Proven track record in managing environmental performance on large infrastructure projects, with a strong understanding of environmental legislation and management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 50001).
• Knowledge: Solid understanding of BREEAM, Biodiversity Net Gain, and carbon reduction strategies. Familiarity with ISO 20400 and PAS 2080 standards is advantageous, along with experience in the power and transmission sector.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and coaching skills with the ability to set clear goals, establish and inspire teams, and empower others to deliver high environmental standards.
• Adaptability: A proactive and positive approach to change management, helping teams to adapt to evolving project needs and sustainability standards.
• Qualifications: Degree in Environmental Management/Sciences, Sustainability, or related field. Membership of a professional body such as IEMA, IES, or CIEEM is preferred.
• Willingness to Travel: Ability and willingness to travel nationally across various project sites.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead Environmental Performance: Manage environmental risks and ensure best practice across all project phases – from design through delivery.
• Drive Sustainability Goals: Support the organisation net-zero ambitions by delivering carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and biodiversity enhancement.
• Management Systems: Develop and implement ISO 14001-compliant Environmental Management Systems (EMS), policies, and procedures.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients, regulators, consultants, and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve compliance and deliver positive environmental outcomes.
• Incident & Risk Management: Lead investigations, reporting and corrective actions following environmental incidents or non-conformances.
• Mentorship & Training: Build and manage a team of environmental professionals, providing coaching and development opportunities.
• Data & Reporting: Oversee environmental data collection, KPI monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Location: This role has a national remit and will involve regular travel to project sites across the UK, as well as to our project hub in Birmingham. We're flexible on where you're based, as long as you're comfortable with travel.

We offer a competitive remuneration package (base salary + car/travel allowance) with access to PMI; enhanced pension and parental leave schemes; Life/Dental/Critical illness insurance and income protection; 33 days holiday inc. bank holidays; professional development opportunities and more!

Are you passionate about driving environmental sustainability in major infrastructure projects? Do you have the expertise to lead a team in delivering outstanding environmental performance across complex construction programmes?
