Location: Stockton-on-Tees
Salary: 14- 17 per hour (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time Temporary with the opportunity to become permanent

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while encouraging confidence, independence, and personal development.

You'll support children with a range of additional needs including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • ADHD

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)

  • Physical disabilities

  • Complex learning needs

  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals, you'll help deliver engaging learning experiences while ensuring every pupil feels supported, valued, and able to reach their full potential.



Your Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual learning needs.

  • Support pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.

  • Assist teachers with preparing and delivering differentiated learning activities.

  • Encourage positive behaviour using supportive and consistent behaviour management strategies.

  • Help pupils develop communication, emotional regulation, confidence, and social skills.

  • Adapt resources and learning activities to suit individual abilities.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

  • Support pupils during breaktimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.

  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers where appropriate.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated and supportive school team.

Experience

Experience in any of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • SEN schools

  • Mainstream education

  • Alternative Provision

  • Residential children's services

  • Care or support work

  • Youth work

  • Mental health support

  • Behaviour mentoring



Desirable Qualifications

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

  • Team Teach or Positive Behaviour Support training

  • Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs

  • Autism awareness training

  • Safeguarding training

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred, although applicants without one are welcome to apply as we can support with obtaining this.
