Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Full-Time

Role Overview
We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist primary school in Skelmersdale, supporting pupils aged 4-11 with a range of additional learning needs. This rewarding role involves working closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support, helping pupils achieve their individual learning goals in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities across the primary curriculum
- Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning programmes
- Encourage pupils' independence, confidence, and social development through positive interactions and consistent support
- Promote positive behaviour using effective behaviour management strategies and school policies
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, parents, and external agencies to support pupil progress
- Assist with personal care where required, ensuring pupils' dignity, wellbeing, and safety are always maintained
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs is desirable
- A patient, compassionate, and nurturing approach to supporting pupils with additional needs
- Good understanding of a range of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and speech, language and communication difficulties
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
