Youth Outreach Worker Schools & Community Support

Apply Now
Are you looking for a rewarding role where your life experience and communication skills can change a young person's trajectory?

We are seeking a passionate, resilient Youth Outreach Worker to support secondary school pupils who are disengaged from education, at risk of exclusion, or facing social and emotional challenges. This role bridges the gap between the classroom, home life, and the local community.

This position is ideal for individuals looking to apply transferable skills from backgrounds such as ex-military/armed forces, sports coaching, youth work, emergency services, or social care. You do not need formal teaching qualifications-we value your ability to build rapport, establish boundaries, and act as a positive role model.

The Role

As an Outreach Worker, you will work dynamically across secondary schools and community settings, targeting disengaged pupils to help them re-integrate successfully into learning.

  • Targeted Interventions: Work 1:1 and in small groups with students dealing with complex backgrounds, school phobia, or behavioural challenges.

  • Community & Home Liaison: Act as a vital link between the school, families, and external support services to tackle attendance and engagement issues.

  • Mentoring & Life Skills: Run active, practical mentoring sessions-utilising sports, outdoor activities, or team-building exercises to develop resilience and emotional regulation.

  • Behaviour Management: Use your calm-under-pressure mindset to defuse challenging situations and provide a stable, grounding presence for vulnerable youth.

What We Are Looking For (Transferable Skills)

  • Communication & Rapport: The ability to speak to teenagers on their level, breaking down barriers that traditional classroom structures can't.

  • Resilience & Composure: A level-headed individual who thrives in fast-paced, unpredictable environments and doesn't take challenging behavior personally.

  • Structure & Adaptability: Backgrounds in the military, emergency services, or coaching are highly valued for their leadership, discipline, and problem-solving skills.

  • Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as this role involves travelling between local school sites and community settings.

Safeguarding & Vetting

Because this role involves direct support of vulnerable young people, all successful candidates must pass an Enhanced DBS check, provide two professional reference checks, and complete a safer recruitment process. Comprehensive safeguarding and trauma-informed mentorship training will be provided.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Pay: 24,500 - 25,500 FTE.

  • Temp-to-Perm Pathway: A stable, direct route into a permanent career in education and youth mentoring.

  • Term-Time Schedule: Enjoy a fantastic work-life balance that aligns with the school holidays.

  • September Start: Secure your new career ahead of the upcoming academic year.

How to Apply

If you have the transferable skills, drive, and empathy to keep a young person on the right track, we want to hear from you.
