Pay: £108.68 - £115 per day

Contract Type: Long-term, Full-time

Start Date: September 2026

Long Term Futures is recruiting a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in Barking & Dagenham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve both academically and personally.

Working closely with experienced teachers and the school's SEND team, you will provide tailored support to students with a range of additional needs, helping them access the curriculum while encouraging independence and positive engagement in school life.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with Special Educational Needs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual learning needs under the guidance of teaching staff.

Support students with needs such as Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and active participation in lessons.

Work collaboratively with teachers and the SEND department to implement personalised support strategies.

Monitor student progress, recording observations and providing feedback to teaching staff.

Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Help create an inclusive classroom environment where every student feels supported to succeed.

What We're Looking For

Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs, ideally within a secondary school.

A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping students reach their full potential.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships quickly.

A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management and supporting additional needs.

The ability to work effectively as part of a wider teaching and SEND team.

GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Relevant qualifications or experience in education, childcare, psychology, youth work, or care are desirable but not essential.
