Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Hackney to recruit a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join their experienced SEND team. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
The school prides itself on creating an environment where every student can thrive, regardless of their individual needs. As an SEN Learning Support Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and reach their full potential.
The Role
You'll be supporting students aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other learning differences.
Your day will involve working both inside and outside the classroom, providing tailored support to individuals and small groups. You'll work closely with class teachers, the SENDCo and wider pastoral team to ensure students remain engaged, make progress and feel supported throughout the school day.
This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality 1:1 and small group support
Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs
Encourage engagement, independence and confidence
Support students with emotional regulation where required
Build positive relationships with students, teachers and families
Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
Help create an inclusive and positive learning environment
Promote excellent behaviour and attendance
About You
We're looking for someone who is patient, resilient and genuinely passionate about supporting young people.
You may already have experience working within education, or perhaps you've worked in youth work, care, coaching, mentoring, support work or another role supporting children and young adults.
The successful candidate will have:
Previous experience supporting children or young people
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A calm, positive and flexible approach
Strong behaviour management skills
A genuine interest in SEND and inclusive education
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for oneGraduates considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy or child psychology are also encouraged to apply.
