About the RoleWarwickshire County Council is recruiting for an experienced HGV Driver to join its Waste Management Operations Team. Experience operating Hook Lift (Skip Loader) vehicles would be highly beneficial but is not essential, as training can be provided to the right candidate.
This role is responsible for the safe transportation of skips, waste containers and recyclable materials between Household Waste Recycling Centres, transfer stations and disposal facilities across Warwickshire.
Working as part of a dedicated operational team, you will play a key role in supporting the efficient running of the county's waste and recycling services while ensuring compliance with transport, environmental and health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities- Safely operate HGV vehicles across Warwickshire's Waste Management network.
- Operate Hook Lift equipment to load, transport and unload skips and waste containers where trained and authorised.
- Transport, load, unload, sheet and secure skips and recycling containers of varying sizes.
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections, safety checks, cleaning and basic maintenance.
- Complete waste transfer notes, load records, vehicle check sheets and other required documentation.
- Support the day-to-day operation of Household Waste Recycling Centres and transfer stations.
- Deliver and discharge waste materials at recycling facilities, transfer stations and landfill sites.
- Ensure compliance with Road Traffic legislation, Driver CPC requirements and Waste Management regulations.
- Assist with site operations when not driving, including plant operation, forklift duties, weighbridge activities and general site support where required.
- Support seasonal operational activities such as winter gritting, dust suppression, litter clearance and other environmental maintenance tasks.
- Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
About You- To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A valid HGV (LGV) Licence (Class 2 or above).
- A valid Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card.
- A good understanding of Driver Hours Regulations and Road Transport legislation.
- Previous experience operating Hook Lift (Skip Loader) vehicles would be highly beneficial but is not essential.
- Confidence in safely loading, securing and transporting skips and waste containers, or a willingness to learn Hook Lift operations.
- The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physical manual work.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work weekends, bank holidays and varying shift patterns when required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with colleagues, contractors and members of the public.
- A strong commitment to health and safety, safe vehicle operation and environmental best practice.
