Site Engineer - A66 Highways, Penrith
£450 per day | PAYE Umbrella | 3-Month Initial Contract with Scope for Extension
Our client, a Tier 1 principal contractor, is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to join the team delivering major highways works on the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project near Penrith - one of National Highways' flagship road investment schemes, upgrading the A66 to dual carriageway between the M6 and Scotch Corner.
This is a great opportunity for a highways-experienced Site Engineer to join a high-profile, long-running National Highways scheme with genuine scope to extend well beyond the initial contract.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading and controlling site works for a specific discipline, across both self-delivered and subcontracted packages
Maintaining comprehensive site records, including detailed daily site diaries
Validating allocation sheets and carrying out setting out and dimensional checks
Maintaining survey records and producing as-built drawings
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings (reinforcement, drainage, earthworks)
Supervising graduate and trainee engineers
Managing specific site operations, including subcontractors
Contributing to weekly programmes and producing short-term schedules, monitoring progress against programme
Producing Works Package Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Task Briefing Sheets
Producing Permits to Dig and briefing the workforce accordingly
Delivering daily activity briefings, safety inspections and hazard identification
Contributing to quality documentation and raising workmanship/quality issues where needed
What You'll Need
Highways project experience
2-3 years' experience with a Tier 1 contractor
Degree, HND or HNC in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Valid UK driving licence and CSCS card
SSSTS or SMSTS qualified
Strong understanding of construction site safety and current H&S legislation
Understanding of environmental issues (noise, dust, light, ecology) and project environmental management plans
Solid knowledge of setting out techniques, with the ability to coach team members
Strong knowledge of construction processes in one or more of: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, or Roadworks
Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
Desirable
Basic understanding of temporary works
Basic understanding of utilities
Basic understanding of lifting operations
Working towards a professional qualification (ICE, CIHT etc.)
