SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary School - Harrow - September 2026 Start - Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and helping them achieve their full potential?

Do you have the patience, empathy, and enthusiasm to make a lasting difference in the lives of students who require additional support?

Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Harrow seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant from September 2026. This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children or young people with additional needs and who is committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly supportive SEND department, working alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to provide tailored support that enables students to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support to students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop independence.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with SEND across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Supporting students with a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs (SLCN), moderate learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons that meet individual learning needs.
  • Adapting learning resources and activities to support student progress.
  • Promoting students' independence, confidence, and engagement within the classroom.
  • Implementing strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where appropriate.
  • Supporting positive behaviour management and emotional regulation.
  • Monitoring student progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and the SEND team.
  • Building strong relationships with students, parents/carers, and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Assisting with classroom organisation and wider school activities as required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with safeguarding, confidentiality, and school policies.

Who the School is Looking For

The school is keen to hear from candidates who are passionate about inclusive education and making a positive difference to the lives of young people.

You should have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties.
  • A degree or relevant qualification is advantageous but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Confidence supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and inclusive education.
  • A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused attitude.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs to achieve their full potential.

Why Apply?

  • Join a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Harrow.
  • Make a meaningful difference to the lives of students with Special Educational Needs.
  • Work alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral professionals.
  • Gain valuable experience within SEND, behaviour support, and inclusive education.
  • Access ongoing professional development and mentoring.
  • Full-time, term-time role starting September 2026.
  • Excellent opportunity for progression into teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, or wider SEND careers.

How to Apply

If you are passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs and would like to play a key role in helping young people achieve success within a secondary school environment, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
