Outage Manager - EFW

£500 - £550 Outside IR35

National Position

Alecto Recruitment is partnering with a market-leading energy from waste company and together we are seeking an experienced Outage Manager to oversee multiple upcoming outage projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate both planned and reactive plant outages, maintenance programmes, and operational activities across multiple sites, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and operational requirements - with the flexibility to support extended hours, weekend working, and site-based assignments as needed.

Provide clear operational leadership across all plant activities, ensuring personnel, contractors, consultants, and service providers are aligned with plant objectives and HSEQ standards, while actively supporting recruitment, training, competency development, and workforce planning to sustain a capable and compliant operational team.

Champion a proactive safety culture by ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements - including the review and application of RAMS, safe systems of work, contractor management protocols, and risk controls - and by intervening where unsafe conditions or behaviours pose a risk to people, plant integrity, or project delivery.

Manage outage preparation and delivery end-to-end, including coordination with engineering teams for documentation and materials, planning of inspections and NDT activities, management of welfare and scaffolding requirements, client and contractor sign-off coordination, and effective demobilisation and close-out of all punch list items.

Support continuous improvement and operational excellence through structured problem-solving, progression of technical and commercial change requests, deviation and claims monitoring, lessons learned capture, and clear communication with site and project management - ensuring all installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance activities meet project and plant operational standards.

Qualifications

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, with proven experience in an Outage Manager, Plant Operations Manager, or equivalent leadership role within the energy sector or a comparable large-scale industrial environment, including strong contractor management and site coordination across complex maintenance and outage activities.

Demonstrable leadership in HSEQ management, with a solid grasp of relevant legal obligations, site safety practices, permit-to-work systems, and operational risk management, supported by recognised qualifications such as SMSTS, SCC, or equivalent.

Sound technical knowledge of mechanical plant systems, industrial maintenance practices, and applicable engineering standards, with the ability to lead safe and compliant outage execution across pressure systems, rotating equipment, utilities, and balance of plant infrastructure.

Familiarity with key industry legislation and directives relevant to mechanical plant operations, including the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), Simple Pressure Vessel Directive, Machinery Directive, and ATEX regulations governing hazardous area compliance.

Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative and proactive working style, good proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and contractors effectively in fast-paced project environments.
