Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Intervention Focus

Location: Sidcup
Position: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Working Hours: 9:00am 3:15pm
Pay Rate: £110 £130 per day

Our agency is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a successful and well-established SEND school in the London Borough of Bexley. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with an intervention focus to join their supportive and highly skilled team.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with a range of special educational needs. Experience of working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) is desirable; however, applications are also welcomed from candidates who are passionate about SEND and keen to develop their skills and expertise within a specialist setting.

About the Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will complement the work of teachers and other professionals by supporting pupils' educational development through your specialist knowledge, skills and experience. You will play a key role in delivering targeted interventions, promoting pupil progress, and ensuring that learners receive the maximum benefit from their education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the educational, social and emotional development of pupils in line with their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Assess pupil needs and use specialist knowledge to support learning and achievement across all areas of development.
  • Monitor, record and evaluate pupil progress, adapting activities and interventions to meet individual needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons, intervention programmes and learning activities that motivate and inspire pupils.
  • Prepare learning resources and effectively manage the learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, health professionals and other school staff to ensure a joined-up approach to pupil support.
  • Plan and deliver learning objectives where appropriate and provide regular feedback to class teachers on pupil progress.
  • Lead on a designated area of specialism (e.g. SEMH, Communication, Sensory Needs), including supporting and training other staff members.
  • Deliver specialist interventions, triage referrals, monitor outcomes and support the transition of interventions back into classroom practice.
  • Provide class cover when required, ensuring continuity of learning and high standards of teaching and support.
  • Undertake First Aid responsibilities as part of the role.

What We're Looking For

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting children or young people within an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of SEND, particularly ASD, SLD and PMLD, is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate learning activities and interventions.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and achieving the best outcomes for all pupils.
  • A willingness to undertake training and further professional development.

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to work within a highly respected specialist SEND school.
  • Supportive leadership team and collaborative staff culture.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Rewarding role where you can make a genuine impact on pupils' lives and futures.

.
