Mechanical Inspector
Location: Cumbria (Site Based)
Contract: 12-Month Contract
Rate: £45.00 per hour
Hours: Full-time
Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Inspector to support a major nuclear project based in Cumbria. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled inspection professional to join a high-profile programme, ensuring mechanical systems, components, and installations are delivered in accordance with stringent quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out mechanical inspections of equipment, systems, pipework, fabrication, and installations.
Verify compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, codes, standards, and quality requirements.
Witness and review testing activities including pressure testing, functional testing, and commissioning activities.
Review inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality documentation, and certification packs.
Identify and report non-conformances and support corrective actions.
Conduct surveillance activities across suppliers, subcontractors, and site works.
Ensure all inspection activities comply with nuclear quality standards and site procedures.
Liaise with engineering, construction, quality, and project teams to resolve technical issues.
Produce detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
Support audits and regulatory inspections as required.Essential Requirements
Previous experience working as a Mechanical Inspector within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Power Generation.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and inspection techniques.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Experience with quality management systems and inspection processes.
Knowledge of pressure systems, piping, fabrication, welding, and mechanical installations.Desirable
Nuclear industry experience.
CSWIP, PCN, or equivalent inspection qualifications.
HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience working under ISO 9001 quality standards.
Security clearance or ability to obtain clearance.
