Private Sector Housing Officer

Location: West Midlands (Local Authority)

Contract: Initial 3-month contract (strong likelihood of extension)

Hours: Flexible – 37 hours or 30 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP (interviews taking place this week)

Overview

We are currently supporting a Local Authority in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and supportive team, contributing to key housing enforcement work within the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities

* Conducting HHSRS inspections, with a particular focus on damp and mould and housing disrepair

* Assessing properties and identifying category hazards in line with legislation

* Managing enforcement cases from inspection through to resolution

* Serving statutory notices, including Prohibition Notices and other enforcement actions where required

* Liaising with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance

* Supporting the Local Authority’s wider objectives around improving housing standards

Requirements

* Proven experience working within Private Sector Housing / Environmental Health

* Strong working knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)

* Experience dealing with enforcement action, including serving formal notices

* Ability to manage caseloads independently and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

* Excellent communication and report-writing skills
