SEMH Teacher

Are you a qualified educator who thrives on turning challenging classroom situations into moments of breakthrough and success? Do you possess the resilience and empathy required to support vulnerable young people with complex emotional and mental health needs? Are you looking for a fulfilling, full-time teaching role within a highly supportive specialist team?

If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting a dedicated, passionate, and highly resilient SEMH Teacher for a rewarding full-time position within a fantastic specialist setting in the Retford area. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a qualified teacher looking to make a lasting, positive impact on student engagement and well-being.

  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (Term-time only)

  • Start Date: September 2026 on a long-term basis

  • Position: SEMH Teacher

About the School

They are a dedicated specialist school committed to supporting children and young people with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They pride themselves on offering a "nurture-first" curriculum, where active learning is at the heart of everything they do. By focusing entirely on the individual rather than the diagnosis, they create a safe, stimulating space for pupils who have previously struggled in mainstream education. The team there is collaborative, welcoming, and entirely committed to helping every student find their spark.

Skills Required
  • Exceptional skills in behaviour de-escalation, conflict resolution, and maintaining a calm, positive classroom environment.

  • The ability to differentiate the curriculum dynamically to meet diverse cognitive abilities and emotional barriers to learning.

  • A robust, non-judgemental nature with the capacity to remain professional and supportive during challenging situations.

  • A willingness to participate in physical activities and active learning sessions to keep students engaged and regulated.

Job Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering an engaging, multi-sensory curriculum tailored to the unique cognitive, emotional, and physical needs of your pupils.

  • Implementing, tracking, and updating individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to monitor small-step progress.

  • Effectively deploying and managing classroom teaching assistants to ensure a safe and highly supportive learning environment.

  • Partnering closely with pastoral support networks, therapists, and families to provide holistic care and education.

Essential Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is mandatory.

  • Proven experience teaching children with SEMH needs or complex behavioural challenges within the UK.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.

  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (visa sponsorship is not available for this role).

Why Choose Randstad?

When you partner with Randstad Education, you are supported by a global recruitment leader with a deeply personal, local approach. Benefits include:

  • Earn £300 in Love2shop vouchers for every person you successfully refer to us (T&Cs apply).

  • Free access to professional development courses, including Team Teach training.

  • Guidance from a specialist SEND consultant to manage your placement and support your career goals.
