Behaviour Specialist HLTA - Newport (September Start)
Pay: .00 per day (depending on experience)
Do you have a real passion for supporting young people with behaviour needs and helping them thrive in education?
Are you confident, resilient, and able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who need consistency and structure?
Aspire People are recruiting for a Behaviour Specialist HLTA to work across schools in Newport from September. This is a highly rewarding opportunity where you'll have a direct and lasting impact, helping pupils overcome barriers, regulate their emotions, and re-engage with learning.
The Role
As a Behaviour Specialist HLTA, you'll be a key part of the school's support network-working alongside teaching staff, pastoral teams and ALN/SEN specialists to create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
This is more than just a support role-you'll be influencing positive change, building confidence, and helping shape better outcomes for young people.
Key Responsibilities
Targeted behaviour support: Deliver effective 1:1 and small-group interventions to improve engagement, emotional regulation and readiness to learn
Positive behaviour & de-escalation: Apply consistent strategies to reduce disruption and support pupils back into lessons successfully
HLTA responsibilities: Lead learning activities, deliver planned sessions and confidently provide high-quality classroom cover
Pastoral support: Support pupils with routines, transitions and reintegration following behavioural incidents
Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching staff and ALN/pastoral teams to implement personalised behaviour plans
Safeguarding: Record, monitor and report concerns in line with school safeguarding procedures
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone calm, resilient and proactive, who thrives on making a difference:
Experience working with children or young people in an education or support setting
Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
Confidence working at HLTA level, leading sessions and interventions independently
A consistent, patient and emotionally intelligent approach
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Desirable (but not essential): Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, EBD, mental health needs, challenging behaviour, anxiety and/or ALN.
