Electrical Test & Commissioning Engineer

Location: Coalville, Leicestershire
Contract Length: 3 6 Months (Potential Extension)
Rate: £400 £450 per day/Night Outside IR35
Start Date: August
Shift Pattern: 7am to 5pm and the odd Night Shift

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting experienced Electrical Test & Commissioning Engineers to support a major warehouse automation project in Coalville, Leicestershire.

Working on behalf of a global leader in automated material handling and intralogistics solutions, you will play a key role in the testing, commissioning, and final delivery of a state-of-the-art automated distribution centre for one of the UK's largest retailers.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term automation project involving advanced conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), robotics, controls systems, and warehouse software integration.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical testing and commissioning activities on automated material handling equipment.
• Perform system validation, functional testing, and fault-finding activities.
• Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and performance testing.
• Test and commission conveyors, sortation systems, cranes, shuttles, and associated controls equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls-related issues.
• Work closely with PLC Engineers, Controls Engineers, Software Engineers, and Project Teams.
• Record test results, defects, and commissioning progress.
• Support and oversee integration testing between PLC, SCADA, WCS, and WMS systems.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
• Liaise directly with customers and project stakeholders where required.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience in electrical testing and commissioning within automation, material handling, intralogistics environment
• Strong understanding of electrical control systems and automated machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and control panel documentation.
• Experience fault-finding and resolving issues using JIRA on automated equipment and controls systems.
• Knowledge of PLC-controlled systems, including troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
• Experience working with conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), cranes, shuttles, or similar automated equipment.
• Familiarity with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley PLC environments.
• Understanding of SCADA, WCS, and WMS systems and their integration within automated facilities.
• Experience supporting Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), functional testing, and system validation activities.
• ECS Card required.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with engineers, project teams, and customers on site.
