Teaching Assistant – SEMH/SEN
Location: Northampton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm (Term Time Only)
Contract: Short-Term, Long-Term & Flexible Opportunities
Pay: £14.00–£16.00 per hour (depending on experience)
We're looking to connect with dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants who are interested in opportunities within specialist education settings across Northampton. Whether you're seeking short-term, long-term or flexible work, we'd love to hear from individuals who are committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
The successful candidates may work within a specialist provision supporting young people with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs) and SEND, combining classroom support with pastoral mentoring to help students thrive both academically and personally.
What the Role Could Involve
Supporting teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive lessons.
Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs.
Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and independence.
Building trusted relationships with students to promote confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Offering pastoral guidance and monitoring student welfare.
Helping create a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment.
Working closely with teaching staff and wider professionals to meet individual student needs.
Many of the settings we work with support small class sizes, enabling staff to provide personalised support to pupils, including those preparing to transition back into mainstream education.
What We're Looking For
Have experience working with children or young people within education or a similar setting.
Understand the needs of pupils with SEMH, SEND or those attending alternative provision.
Can motivate and engage learners while supporting their individual goals.
Hold GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above, or an equivalent qualification.
Communicate professionally and work effectively as part of a wider team.
Are committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion and promoting positive outcomes for young people.
