We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Stress Engineer to join our Commercial Modifications Engineering team in Europe on a contract / contingent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the certification of aircraft interior modifications, supporting high-profile programmes within a flexible, global engineering environment.
About the Role
As a contracted specialist, you will be responsible for delivering structural substantiation documentation for aircraft interior modifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal design organisation procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver structural substantiation and certification activities for aircraft interior modification programmes
Identify certification requirements and define substantiation approaches in collaboration with global teams
Produce and review high-quality stress reports and supporting documentation, including:
Seating installations
Cabin monuments (galleys, lavatories, dividers, premium suites, VVIP interiors)
Cabin reconfigurations (LOPAs, PSUs, LRU installations)
Related structural considerations (e.g., fuselage interfaces, antenna installations)
Develop detailed calculations, load paths, and justification aligned with regulatory expectations
Support customer-facing certification milestones (ITCM, PDR, CDR, FAI)
Ensure all outputs are auditable, traceable, and certification-ready
Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement Typical Deliverables
Complete structural substantiation reports aligned with certification plans
Hand calculation packages and FEA models/results
Certification compliance matrices, load cases, and assumptions records
Required Experience & Skills
Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Minimum 5+ years' experience in aircraft structures/stress analysis
Proven track record delivering modification substantiation, ideally within interiors
Strong expertise in:
Classical stress analysis and hand calculations
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and methodologies
Authoring certification-ready technical documentation
Working knowledge of EASA/FAA airworthiness requirements (CS-25, FAR 25, etc.)
Experience with a Part 21J Design Organisation (or equivalent) is highly desirable
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent programmes
