Senior Devops Engineer

Rate: Up to £749 per day (Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid/remote (UK-based – National/London 1–2 days/week max for local candidates, less for national candidates)

Contract Length: 6 months

Security Clearance: Active SC required

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a high-profile government programme. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in cloud infrastructure, automation, and modern DevOps practices, working within a secure and highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines and delivery automation solutions

* Manage and optimise Git-based source control workflows across engineering teams

* Operate and support production systems on AWS

* Implement and maintain infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

* Develop automation and tooling using Python to improve operational efficiency

* Support live services including incident response, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis

* Work closely with engineering teams to improve deployment reliability and developer experience

* Apply a structured, evidence-led approach to diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues

Essential Skills & Experience

* Strong hands-on experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering roles

* Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)

* Strong knowledge of Git-based workflows and source control best practices

* Commercial experience operating workloads in AWS (preferred cloud provider)

* Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)

* Strong proficiency in Python for automation and tooling

* Experience supporting production-grade cloud environments

* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a structured approach

Desirable Experience

* Experience within government or highly regulated environments

* Containerisation and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes)

* Observability tools (logging, monitoring, alerting, tracing)

* Improving developer experience and platform reliability at scale
