  • SEMH Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • Specialist SEMH Primary School Wembley
  • Full-Time
  • September 2026 Start
  • Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
  • £120 - £160 per day (PAYE)

Are you an experienced and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for a rewarding role within a specialist SEMH primary setting?

A highly regarded Specialist SEMH Primary School in Wembley is seeking a dedicated and resilient HLTA to join their team from September 2026 on a full-time, long-term basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner who is passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them achieve positive educational and personal outcomes.

The Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with complex SEMH needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and associated behavioural challenges. Working closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will support pupils both academically and socially, helping them to develop the skills and confidence required for successful progression through their education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering targeted interventions to individuals and small groups.
  • Covering classes across the school in the absence of teaching staff.
  • Supporting pupils with their academic, emotional, social, and behavioural development.
  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and promoting positive outcomes.
  • Working under the direction of teaching staff to deliver planned learning activities.
  • Monitoring, recording, and reporting on pupil progress.
  • Supporting pupils in developing self-regulation, resilience, and independence.
  • Contributing to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • A recognised HLTA qualification.
  • Proven experience working at Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) level.
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or complex emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Experience working within a specialist setting, PRU, Alternative Provision, SEMH School, or similar environment.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable pupils.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A calm, resilient, and proactive approach.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting pupils with complex ASD and SEMH needs.
  • PRICE, Team Teach, or other positive handling/restraint training.
  • De-escalation training and experience managing challenging behaviours.
  • Experience delivering interventions and leading learning activities independently.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and experienced leadership team.
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
  • PRICE training provided where required.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people.
  • A potential permanent contract following a successful temporary period.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and qualified HLTA who is passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and is looking to join a specialist primary provision where they can have a significant impact every day.

Apply now to secure an interview ahead of the September 2026 start date.
