Role: Learning and Progress Mentor (Secondary Schools)
Location: Brighton and Hove
Contract: Full-Time / Part-Time

Daily Rate: £92.63 £105.30
Supply Desk is working in partnership with a range of welcoming and inclusive secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking dedicated and proactive Learning and Progress Mentors to join their teams from September 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them overcome barriers to learning, improve engagement, build confidence, and make positive academic and personal progress.
About the Role
As a Learning and Progress Mentor, you will work closely with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, providing targeted academic, pastoral, and behavioural support. You will help students stay engaged in lessons, develop positive learning habits, improve attendance and motivation, and work towards personalised targets that support their progress across the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for secondary-aged students
Help students overcome barriers to learning, engagement, attendance, and progress
Support students in setting and working towards academic, behavioural, and personal targets
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and parents/carers where appropriate
Support emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours
Monitor and provide feedback on student progress, engagement, and wellbeing
Promote a safe, inclusive, and aspirational school environment
Candidate Profile
Experience supporting young people in a secondary school, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care, or support setting
Strong understanding of barriers to learning, behaviour, attendance, and motivation
Calm, patient, resilient, and confident approach when supporting students
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and wider school professionals
A genuine passion for helping young people build confidence, independence, and positive futures
Requirements
Relevant experience working with young people in education, mentoring, youth work, care, coaching, or support work
Understanding of secondary school expectations, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support is desirable
Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Two years worth of professional references
