Location: Hybrid – 2 days per week, National role, based from nearest government hub

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Security Engineer (G7) to support the continued development and improvement of Security Operations capabilities within a large public sector organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening cyber security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and security automation capabilities. You will help improve the organisation’s ability to identify, investigate, and respond to cyber threats while supporting compliance with evolving government security standards.

This role provides an opportunity to work on critical services, contributing to improved cyber resilience and the delivery of strategic security objectives.

Key Responsibilities

* Implement, configure, and manage Palo Alto Networks Cortex XSIAM to enhance security monitoring and incident response capabilities.

* Develop and maintain security policies, detection rules, and configurations to improve threat identification and response.

* Integrate XSIAM with existing security tools and information systems to automate security operations and workflows.

* Monitor and analyse security alerts, incidents, and threat activity to identify risks and emerging patterns.

* Support cyber incident investigations and response activities.

* Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to share threat intelligence and improve security awareness.

* Provide technical security guidance and support to IT teams and business stakeholders.

* Maintain awareness of emerging cyber threats, security technologies, and Palo Alto Networks capabilities.

* Produce security reports, incident analysis, and recommendations for senior stakeholders.

Essential Skills & Experience

Candidates must have experience in:

* Security engineering within complex enterprise environments.

* Security Operations Centre (SOC) processes, monitoring, and incident response.

* Security monitoring, threat detection, and investigation.

* SIEM, XDR, or security analytics platforms.

* Palo Alto Networks technologies, particularly Cortex XSIAM.

* Developing and maintaining security rules, policies, and configurations.

* Security tooling integrations and automation.

* Producing technical documentation and reporting for senior stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

* Experience working within UK Government, public sector, or highly regulated environments.

* Knowledge of cyber security frameworks such as the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF), Minimum Cyber Security Standard (MCSS), or GovAssure.

* Experience with threat intelligence platforms and security analytics.

* Strong understanding of modern cyber threats and defensive security practices.

Active SC clearance is a strict requirement for this role. Candidates without current valid SC vetting cannot be considered.
