Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs? Do you have experience working with students who have SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs), ADHD, Autism, challenging behaviour, or other additional learning needs?

JDS recruitment are recruiting Support Tutors and Learning Support Assistants to join our dedicated team at our alternative provision school in Gravesend, Kent from either September 26 or January 27.

The school has a range of flexible opportunities available, including ad hoc, long-term and permanent positions.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people aged 11-18 (Years 7-13) who have struggled to thrive in mainstream education, helping them rebuild confidence, engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

About the school

Our independent alternative provision offers a fresh approach to education for young people who have been excluded from or found it difficult to succeed in mainstream settings.

They believe that education should adapt to the needs of the individual, not the other way around. Every student is treated with understanding, respect and compassion, with learning tailored to their strengths and interests.

The unique curriculum is built around music and creativity, providing engaging and meaningful learning experiences that help students reconnect with education and develop confidence in themselves and their future.

The Role

As a Support Tutor or Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH and additional learning needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
• Support behaviour management using a calm, consistent and restorative approach.
• Encourage engagement, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral team.
• Help students achieve both academically and personally.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ADHD, Autism, behavioural needs or other additional needs.
• A positive, patient and resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure.
• A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

Experience in schools, alternative provisions, youth work, residential care, mentoring, coaching or similar settings is highly desirable.

Our Curriculum

Our students study a broad and engaging curriculum, including:

• English GCSE - Developing communication, reading, writing and confidence.
• Maths GCSE - Building practical mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills.
• Music Technology - Composing, recording and producing music using industry-standard technology in our professional recording studio.
• Vocational Physical Education - Promoting physical health, teamwork, resilience and positive mental wellbeing through a range of practical activities.
