Year 6 Teaching Assistant

Location: Outskirts of Wigan

Start Date: September 2026

Duration: September to December (with potential to extend for the right candidate)

Salary: 95 a day

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in Key Stage 2? Do you have the skills to motivate and inspire Year 6 pupils as they prepare for their transition to secondary school?

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and proactive Year 6 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school located on the outskirts of Wigan. This is a full-time, temporary role starting in September 2026 until December, with a strong possibility of extending further into the academic year.

The Role

As a Year 6 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils during a crucial academic year. Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the class teacher with the delivery of high-quality lessons aligned with the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

Leading targeted intervention groups in English (Reading & Writing) and Maths to help bridge gaps in learning.

Providing 1:1 or small group support for pupils preparing for their SATs.

Helping to boost pupils' confidence, resilience, and independent learning skills.

Creating a positive, encouraging, and focused classroom environment.

What We Are Looking For:

Prior experience working within Key Stage 2 (experience in Year 5 or 6 is highly desirable).

Strong literacy and numeracy skills to confidently support upper Key Stage 2 curriculum demands.

A warm, firm, and encouraging approach to behaviour management.

A team player who can collaborate effectively with teachers and support staff.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for a new one).
