Job Title: Java Engineer

Location: Dublin - Leopardstown 3 days in office

Contract: 6 months rolling contract initially

Rate: (Apply online only) Euros - inside umbrella

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Java Engineer to join a high-performing Risk Technology team. This role focuses on designing and developing modern web applications and APIs that support critical risk management capabilities within a large-scale banking environment.

The successful candidate will have strong expertise across the modern Java ecosystem, experience building enterprise-grade applications, and a passion for solving complex technical and business challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain robust Java-based web applications and APIs.

Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and engineering teams to deliver scalable risk management solutions.

Translate complex business requirements into high-quality technical designs.

Develop and enhance microservices and distributed applications.

Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following engineering best practices.

Create and maintain unit and integration tests.

Support deployment and operation of applications within containerized environments.

Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.Required Skills & Experience

Core Java Development

Strong commercial experience with Java development.

Comprehensive knowledge of the modern Java ecosystem.

Experience with enterprise application development and backend services.Frameworks & APIs

Strong experience using Spring Framework (Spring Boot preferred).

Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and web services.Databases

Strong SQL and relational database experience.

Ability to write efficient queries and troubleshoot database performance issues.Cloud & DevOps

Experience working with containerized applications.

Hands-on experience with:

Docker

KubernetesTesting

Experience developing unit and integration tests.

Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and test-driven development principles.Communication

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Preferred Experience

Financial Services or Banking domain experience.

Risk Technology, Risk Management, or Regulatory Technology experience.

Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
