Senior Civil Engineer

Location: Ireland (must be based in Ireland or happy for frequent travel)

We are partnering with a well-established engineering and infrastructure contractor that has built a strong reputation delivering major Transmission & Distribution projects across the UK and internationally. With a proven track record in the power sector and a growing presence in Ireland, the business has secured a significant pipeline of work through the ESB framework and is now looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to support the delivery of multiple high-voltage substation projects nationwide.

As a contractor, the business delivers projects from early-stage design and engineering through procurement, construction and commissioning, offering engineers the opportunity to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle. You'll work closely with both design and delivery teams, giving you a broader perspective than a traditional consultancy role and providing a strong platform for future progression into Lead Engineer, Engineering Manager or Project Management positions.

The Role

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll play a key role in the successful delivery of multiple HV substation projects across the ESB portfolio, providing technical leadership throughout design and construction phases.

Key responsibilities will include:

Leading the civil engineering design and delivery of substation projects across Ireland.

Managing civil design activities including earthworks, drainage, foundations, access roads, retaining structures and associated infrastructure.

Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, structural, environmental and construction specialists.

Reviewing and approving engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings and specifications.

Supporting project planning, cost control and programme management activities.

Acting as a key point of contact for ESB, contractors, local authorities and other stakeholders.

Ensuring designs and construction activities comply with Irish regulations, industry standards and client requirements.

Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Supporting site activities, construction reviews and technical issue resolution throughout project delivery.

What We're Looking For

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Chartered status or working towards chartership is desirable.

Experience delivering civil engineering projects within power, utilities, energy or major infrastructure sectors.

Previous HV substation experience would be highly advantageous.

Strong understanding of Irish engineering standards, regulations and health & safety requirements.

Experience working within multidisciplinary project environments.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
