Senior Project Engineer

Location: London Rate: £400 per day (Inside IR35) Duration: Long-term Contract Sector: Rail Infrastructure

About the Role

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure project in London. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a high-profile programme of works, delivering complex engineering solutions within a multidisciplinary project environment.

Working for a leading Tier 1 delivery partner, you will play a key role in coordinating engineering activities, managing technical interfaces, and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of rail infrastructure works.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering activities across defined work packages.
• Ensure works are delivered in compliance with design specifications, project requirements, and Network Rail standards.
• Manage technical queries, RFIs, temporary works, and engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with site teams, designers, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Monitor programme, quality, and construction methodology throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support construction teams in resolving technical challenges and implementing engineering solutions.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Provide engineering leadership and support to project teams and junior engineers.

Requirements

• Proven experience working as a Senior Project Engineer or Project Engineer within the UK rail sector.
• Previous experience working on major rail infrastructure projects such as Network Rail, HS2, Crossrail, East West Rail, or similar.
• Background working with Tier 1 contractors such as Costain, Balfour Beatty, Murphy, BAM Nuttall, VolkerRail, Skanska, Vinci, Kier, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of rail construction methodologies and engineering delivery.
• Experience managing engineering interfaces across multiple disciplines.
• HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• CSCS
• SMSTS.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
