Role Overview
About the Opportunity
The organisation is collaborating with a leading global technology organisation delivering mission-critical infrastructure and secure digital services across the public sector. The team is expanding and looking for Senior open-source operating system System Administrators to join a high-performing environment working on nationally significant projects.
You'll be part of a skilled technical team responsible for maintaining and improving secure open-source operating system environments, ensuring stability, performance, and compliance. The role offers hybrid working and exposure to some of the most advanced secure computing environments in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support for open-source operating system-based systems and infrastructure.
• Monitor overall system performance, proactively identifying risks or issues.
• Develop and maintain system documentation and operational procedures.
• Implement, support, and maintain standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.
• Collaborate with internal teams to enhance automation and system reliability.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Strong knowledge of open-source operating system system administration (enterprise operating system/CentOS 6/7/8).
• Experience working to ITIL best practices.
• Excellent organisation, time management, and troubleshooting skills.
• A proactive mindset focused on process improvement and root cause analysis.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to share knowledge within a team.
Desirable Technologies
• Automation tools: configuration automation tooling, configuration automation tooling.
• enterprise operating system ecosystem: Satellite 6, container platform 3/4, enterprise operating system Atomic/container-focused operating system.
• Scripting: Bash, Python, Git.
• Cloud: cloud platform.
• Solid understanding of command line interfaces (CLI).
Security Clearance Requirements
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible for national security clearance. To meet this requirement, applicants must:
• Be sole British citizens (dual nationality is not permitted).
• Have not spent more than 30 consecutive days outside the UK in the past 10 years.
• Have no criminal record.
• Have no significant financial irregularities (e.g. bankruptcy, outstanding debts).
Unfortunately, candidates who do not meet these criteria cannot be considered for this position.
