Are you a graduate passionate about supporting young people and helping teenagers achieve their academic and personal potential?

Do you have experience working with secondary-aged students with SEND, including those with Autism, ADHD, or additional learning needs, and want to develop your skills within an Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school?

Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a highly regarded and inclusive Outstanding secondary school in South Harrow seeking to appoint enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistants from September 2026. This full-time role is ideal for graduates with experience supporting teenagers, particularly students with SEND, who are looking to gain valuable classroom experience and develop a career within education.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and ambitious school community, work alongside experienced teachers and SEN professionals, and provide tailored academic, social, and emotional support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.

The Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to provide high-quality academic, pastoral, and emotional support to students across the school.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 in a range of subjects.
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to improve student progress, confidence, and engagement.
  • Supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning needs.
  • Helping students develop independence, confidence, communication skills, and positive learning habits.
  • Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, support plans, and individual learning plans.
  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities, lesson preparation, and adapting learning resources.
  • Delivering targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, and subject-specific areas.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and active participation in learning.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with teenagers and acting as a trusted role model.
  • Supporting students with their social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Assisting with classroom management to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supporting students during assessments and examinations where required.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and families to support individual student needs.
  • Contributing to wider school activities, enrichment programmes, and the wider school community.

Who the School is Looking For

The school is keen to hear from motivated graduates who are passionate about education and committed to supporting young people, particularly those with additional needs.

You should have:

  • A degree in any subject.
  • Previous experience working with teenagers or secondary-aged students (essential).
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or other additional learning needs (essential).
  • Experience in a school, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, coaching, or similar setting.
  • A genuine interest in supporting students' academic progress, wellbeing, and personal development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
  • Confidence supporting students with a range of abilities and learning needs.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively with teaching and pastoral staff.
  • A proactive approach to supporting student engagement and inclusion.

This role is particularly suited to graduates considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, SEN, youth work, counselling, or other education-related professions.

Why Apply?

  • Join an Outstanding Ofsted-rated secondary school in South Harrow.
  • Gain valuable classroom experience working with KS3 and KS4 students.
  • Develop specialist experience supporting students with SEND, including Autism and ADHD.
  • Work alongside experienced teachers, SENCOs, and education professionals.
  • Develop strong behaviour management, communication, and intervention skills.
  • Make a meaningful difference to students' academic progress, confidence, and wellbeing.
  • Benefit from excellent training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  • Opportunity for long-term progression and future teacher training.
  • Full-time, term-time role starting September 2026.
